Oded Balilty was born in 1979 in Jerusalem. From 1998 to 2001 he did military service in the Israeli army, where he trained to be a photographer. He then spent a year working for the zoom 77 photo agency and Yedioth Ahronot daily newspaper, before moving to associated press in 2002. His work has won him a number of major awards , including the World Press Award in 2006 and the Pulitzer Prize in 2007.
